Right next to the water on Universitetsholmen in central Malmö grows on climate-smart office property Bassängkajen forward. The property, which Skanska awarded a turnkey contract, covering 16,200 square meters and consists of seven floors and garage.

The project is divided into two stages - the first, at 8,500 square feet, was completed in September 2011 and the second is expected to be completed in summer 2012. Energy efficiency and environmental concerns has been a consistent focus throughout the project and Bassängkajen was the first in the Nordic region with a pre-certification at the LEED Platinum level.

The building is also classified as an EU GreenBuilding which means that energy consumption is 25 percent lower than current energy demands. To reach the ambitious certification requirements so the property is constructed of environmentally friendly building materials, ceilings are fitted with sedum plants and property supplied by renewable energy.

Bassängkajen is located within walking distance of two Malmö city bus lines and 400 m from the Malmö central station, which provides various regional and international rail services. The site has designated parking spaces for low-energy or fuel-efficient vehicles and three commercial electric vehicle charging stations are situated in the garage level.
