Liteblok is made with cellular lightweight concrete. A non-toxic chemical foam is introduced into regular concrete leaving a multitude of air pockets within the mixture. This wet mixture is poured into block molds and allowed to cure. No heat is employed during the manufacturing process. The molds are disassembled revealing lightweight blocks comprised of sand and cement filled with non-interconnected air pockets. The patented interlocking design and the cellular lightweight concrete used in the manufacture of Liteblok are entirely unique. During construction, reinforced steel (rebar) and grout are introduced into some of the holes within the blocks to form columns. It is these columns that provide the support for the structure. The structure essentially represents a basic column and beam system with the columns and beams being made out of materials that structural engineers are already familiar with. The mortarless design creates gaps between blocks which act as expansion joints eliminating the need for such. Although Liteblok walls are structural, the blocks themselves are not structural elements. Liteblok is a form that contains the structure.
There are four block sizes available: the standard five inch thick Liteblok, the five inch thick double high Liteblok Tall, the eight inch thick Liteblok Grande and the new Liteblok Jumbo. We also offer two standard densities of the Liteblok form. Liteblok 38 is lightweight and has very good insulating properties. This form is intended for those applications requiring thermal insulation or a low density. Our Liteblok 69 is a heavier block and is targeted at applications where abrasion resistance is important and thermal insulation and light weight are less of a priority. Besides our standard Liteblok versions, it is also possible for us to provide custom solutions including different surface textures, densities, colors, and sizes.
