Haworth’s new innovative space in Beijing has been recognized as the world’s first certified LEED project under the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) new LEED version 4 beta program. The Beijing branch earned its Gold under LEED v4, inarguably the most stringent set of guidelines ever released by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to date. The project earned 71 out of the possible 110 points. LEED consultancy firm Bisagni Environmental Enterprise (BEE) oversaw the calculation, documentation, and submission work for the Haworth project.

Showroom area of 650 square meters is located in one of the greenest buildings in China – Parkview Green FangCaoDi, the LEED Platinum (version 3) building, which is home to a boutique hotel, commercial offices and premium retail. Its convenient location in the Chaoyang District of Beijing provides tenants with access to quality transportation and bicycle facilities.

For the Haworth Beijing Showroom, location proved to be a crucial factor in capturing many of the credit points in LEED v4 for Interior Design & Construction (LEED v4 ID+C). The iconic Parkview Green FangCaoDi was chosen as the base building, which in itself is a LEED-certified structure as well. It is in fact the first ever commercial complex to be awarded LEED Platinum in the country.

With its ingenious low carbon design and high-performance features, Parkview Green was the perfect building to situate the Haworth showroom. As all the sustainable energy, water, and climate control systems are already in place, it was only a matter of being able to take advantage of these eco-solutions that Parkview Green has to offer.

Inside, Haworth has created the Club – an organic workspace concept offering dynamic co-working and lounge spaces available to tenants, hotel guests and surrounding community. The core design element is a concept of flexibility: Everything can be easily rearranged to meet day-today needs. The flexibility of workspace saves money, time, reduces waste and encourages community development.

The credit points that got the Haworth Beijing Showroom, passing the certification were distributed as follows.
