The Green Building & City Solutions Awards 2016 edition is going to be awesome! Construction21 already knows its first candidates, with widely innovative profiles in terms of sustainable construction.
Each case study presents original characteristics and involved in the approach of sustainable development. Bio-based materials, rainwater-harvesting system, thermal insulation system or spreading of a way of living in community, the GBCS Awards first candidates distinguish themselves by their capacity to take under consideration the climatic, energetic, environmental factors while keeping an economic and social vision in their project outcome.
The 2016 Awards first candidate is Agua building, the new headquarter for GA Group, in the Smart Building category. With a 3500m2 net surface, the building was delivered in 2014 for a total construction cost of 7177 euros. Agua presents itself as an innovative building by having a real energy consumption lower than 25kWh/m2/year. It combines different techniques, which make this building an example in the sustainable construction field, as the thermal heat pump, the solar photovoltaic or the dual-flow ventilation with heat recovery.
Thanks to Smart Grids systems, the building reallocates its overproductions to two other tertiary buildings from the activities park. GA Group has equipped its BMS with an artificial intelligence. MyGapéo makes Agua a predictive building, which uses meteorological information and learns from the consumers’ habits in order to optimize the equipment driving.
Another successful gamble for Agua, the different entities which intervened on its construction have done everything to maximize the comfort and the wellness of GA Group teams. Thus, the building is made with a system which calculates the day light factor in order to ensure a minimum natural lightning, and an intelligent lightning has been installed with an automatic gradation according to the natural light. Bois Debout, it is 17 social housings and business offices, in 940m2, for a total cost of 1 850 000 euros. The building, delivered in 2016, has gained the Passivhaus certification. Construction made with wooden framework on six levels integral dry implementation, the building has dual-flow ventilation with heat exchanger and a static heat recovery on waste water system. Bois Debout has gained the bio-based building label, as well as the H&E Cercal Qualitel label.

Regain bis Douvrin
The building, located in Douvrin, was delivered in 2015, for a total cost of 570 000 euros. It fits exemplary characteristics in terms of sustainable building. The electricity is produced by photovoltaic panels and it covers 100% of the building’s electric needs. Furthermore, it is a passive envelop and positive energy building, as it is defined by the RT 2012. Besides, REGAIN bis is made with a green roof, and a storm water management system. Finally, the construction of this building has involved the bio-based materials and the recycled materials use.

Smartseille is the first candidate for the Green City Solutions Awards 2016 of the GBCS Awards. The eco-district, located in Marseille and also called “Ilot Allar”, whom delivery is predicted for 2018, faces the challenge to become an example in terms of sustainable city. The project is born from a “Phosphore” study, which is a prospective laboratory, specialized in sustainable city. It associates energy efficiency, sustainable construction, spaces intelligence, eco mobility and environmental services to the will to create a space of social links.
Smartseille is a truly technical innovation vector. With the implementation of a thermal thalasso loop and a thermal Smart Grid, the Îlot Allar wants to create sustainable energy solidarity. The project managers’, which are Eiffage, key words are the promotion of the local auto consumption and the end of wasting. For example, a hot water storage system enable to stock the oversupplies produced during the off-peak period. Concerning the land management, the eco-district wants to favour the plantation in open-ground and the porous pavement. Know more

Taft school Faculty home
This school is the first American case study eligible for the GBCS Awards and for the exemplary buildings database. This high standard of energy efficiency residency has received the passive certification and the LEED label. One of the challenges, except the efficiency, was to realize a passive building, which integrates the New England traditional architecture. Know more
